My world travel images are from Alaska, one of my favorite travel destinations. Alaska arouses something within me, stirs my very being, and sings to me. Sometimes, in a soft voice of vast landscapes, fog, and clear winter nights. Sometimes, with the choral rhythm of wind, waves, and crackling fire. At other times lively and energetic like a calving glacier or school of world-traveling salmon.
John Muir, an early advocate for the preservation of wilderness, is credited with writing, "You should never go to Alaska as a young man because you'll never be satisfied with any other place as long as you live." As a young woman, I did just that, and I return often - it is a special place to recharge one's batteries.
My "Alaska" images represent the essence of John Muir's message: carefree moments, an adventurous and independent lifestyle, and an ideal place to exhale, look up at the sky, and live in the moment.
I spend most of my time in the States of Oregon and Alaska, two of the many places that have shaped my worldview and photographic eye. I studied Fine Art Photography and the History of Photography at the University of Iowa. My images have been exhibited in numerous juried art shows and galleries.
